Released in 1976 The Shootist was John Waynes last movie before he died. It tells the story of  J.B. Books a dying gunfighter who spends his last days looking for a way to die with a minimum of pain and a maximum of dignity. Starring John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Jimmy Stewart, Ron Howard, and Harry Morgan, it was yet again The Duke at his best.
